The Social Security Administration has confirmed the payment schedule for May 2025. Approximately 69 million Americans, including retirees and individuals with qualifying disabilities, will receive their benefits according to the following dates:

Friday, May 2: People who started receiving Social Security before May 1997
Wednesday, May 14: Birthdates between the 1st and 10th
Wednesday, May 21: Birthdates between the 11th and the 20th
Wednesday, May 28: Birthdates between the 21st and the 31st

SSI recipients will receive two checks in May – one on May 1 (the check for May 2025) and a second on May 30 (the check for June). This is due to June 1 falling on a Sunday.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides monthly benefits to people with limited income or resources who are 65 or older, blind, or have a qualifying disability. Children with qualifying disabilities can also receive SSI. The Social Security Administration advises that if you don’t receive your payment on the expected date, you should allow three additional mailing days before contacting the agency.

Most payments arrive on time as 99% of beneficiaries are paid electronically. Everyone can start receiving reduced Social Security benefits as early as age 62.

However, waiting until full retirement age results in a larger monthly payment. For instance, if you were born in 1958, your full retirement age is 66 years and 8 months. Those born in 1959 will reach it at 66 years and 10 months.

For individuals born in 1960 and later, the full retirement age will increase to 67. Acting Commissioner of Social Security Lee Dudek said: “I am proud of the extraordinary work by our dedicated employees at SSA to help deliver on President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security. Our employees understand the urgency of the moment and have worked hard to restore the public’s trust.

While much work remains to be done, there is no question that SSA is taking the necessary steps to transform how it serves the public while protecting hardworking American taxpayers.”

The next Social Security payments will be issued on May 14, 21, and 28, depending on recipients’ birth dates. The SSA urges beneficiaries to check its official calendar to stay informed and avoid confusion.
