Stelios Haji-Ioannou launches €500,000 business award

A new initiative to promote cross-border entrepreneurship on the island of Ireland is being launched today in County Monaghan. The North-South Business Cooperation Awards, backed by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, will provide a total prize fund of €500,000 to 18 entrepreneurs across nine enterprises. The awards target businesses that have been registered in either the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland within the past five years and are currently engaged in cross-border trading.

The initiative is spearheaded by Greek Cypriot entrepreneur Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the founder and owner of the “easyGroup,” which includes the British airline EasyJet. The launch event is taking place this morning at the Monaghan Peace Campus and is supported by Co-operation Ireland, a peacebuilding charity. Speaking ahead of the event, Mr.

Haji-Ioannou emphasized the broader implications of the awards.

Cross-border entrepreneurship awards

These awards represent more than just recognition – they embody a commitment to building a better, more connected future on the island of Ireland.

When businesses from both sides of the border collaborate, they do more than drive economic growth; they build trust, create lasting jobs, and strengthen the social and economic fabric of our communities. We are working for lasting peace and economic prosperity on the island of Ireland,” he stated. Ian Jeffers, Chief Executive of Co-operation Ireland, highlighted the importance of cross-border business partnerships in fostering peace and prosperity.

He remarked, “These awards recognize that co-operation is not just a shared ideal – it’s a powerful driver of real economic progress. Sir Stelios’ commitment to backing ambitious entrepreneurs across the island is both timely and inspiring. By supporting ventures that operate beyond traditional boundaries, we’re helping to embed lasting economic ties that benefit communities North and South.
