Entrepreneurs love big numbers. Follower counts. Views. Vanity metrics. But they don’t pay the bills. My stance is simple: stop chasing attention and start building systems that convert. Technology used with intent—paired with strategy and backed by accountability—wins. It also serves people who have been left behind.

The Case for Substance Over Hype

Alrick from AdOutreach put it bluntly: viewership beats followership. Most platforms now reward watch time, not subscriber totals. That matches what I’ve seen coaching founders—businesses grow when the right people watch long enough to act. As Alrick said,

“You can’t take likes to the bank.”

He also shared a simple framework that works for any length of video:

  • Hook
  • Story
  • Educate
  • Summarize
  • Call to action

If you want clients, teach something real, then tell people what to do next. That’s it. Cross-post, test, retarget, and let the best ideas rise.

Build Tech That Helps People—Really

Devin Millington works in home and community-based services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He sees what happens when systems fail. It’s not a theory. It’s lost lives and strained public resources.

What I’m Arguing For

I’ve coached leaders across sectors. The winners do a handful of unglamorous things very well:

  • They measure what matters, not what flatters.
  • They teach their market before they sell to it.
  • They use tech to remove friction for customers and teams.
  • They write strategy that others can execute without hand-holding.
  • They choose impact over noise, people over optics.

That isn’t sexy. It works.

Pushback—and Why It Falls Short

“But virality fuels growth.” Sometimes. Viral for the wrong audience is a sugar high. It distracts teams, skews product choices, and fills pipelines with poor fits. I’d rather have 10,000 right viewers than a million passersby.

“AI will handle it.” Not without clarity. If your inputs are vague, your outputs will waste time. AI multiplies direction; it doesn’t create it.

The Path Forward

Here’s how to start moving from vanity to value this quarter:

  1. Adopt the hook–story–educate–summarize–CTA format for every video.
  2. Pick one channel your buyers already watch and post there daily for 30 days.
  3. Map one process you still run on paper; digitize it this month.
  4. Write your one-year plan in one page that your team can act on.
  5. Invite three trusted voices to poke holes in it—and fix what they flag.

None of this requires a miracle. It requires choice. Choose clients over clout. Choose clarity over chaos. Choose tools that lift people who need it most.

That’s the work I believe in. If enough of us do it, we’ll build stronger companies—and a fairer system—one practical step at a time.
