The Social Security Administration (SSA) is set to conclude its March 2025 schedule of payments next Wednesday, March 26. This date is significant for certain recipients of Social Security benefits, including retired workers, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) recipients, and individuals receiving survivors’ benefits. In the United States, about 73 million recipients of Social Security benefits receive their payments on a staggered schedule determined by their birth date.

The payments are distributed on one of three Wednesdays each month. In March 2025, the schedule is as follows:

March 12: Beneficiaries born between the month’s 1st and 10th. March 19: Beneficiaries born between the 11th and the 20th.

March 26: Beneficiaries born between the 21st and the 31st. Some beneficiaries are not included in this Wednesday payment system:

Americans who began claiming Social Security benefits before May 1997 receive their payments on the third of each month.

Financial dates for Social Security payments

Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is funded by general tax revenues rather than Social Security taxes, usually receive their payments on the first of each month. An exception is made if the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday; in such cases, the payment is moved to the nearest working day. As of 2025, retired workers are paid an average of $1,978 per month.

The amount a retired worker receives depends on their earnings history and the age at which they start claiming benefits. The maximum monthly payment available to retirees is $5,108. Other Social Security beneficiaries receive varying amounts:

Disabled workers: Average monthly payment of $1,580.

Survivors’ benefits recipients receive an average monthly payment of $1,546. SSI recipients receive an average monthly payment of $714. Next Wednesday will be crucial for many retired workers and other beneficiaries as they receive their scheduled payments, which will provide critical support for their financial needs.
