Social Security payments for July 2025 will follow the regular schedule. However, some recipients may see smaller checks. The Social Security Administration (SSA) plans to start withholding up to 50% of benefits from those who have been overpaid and have not started repaying the money.

It is unclear how many people this will impact. In the fiscal year that ended September 2023, the SSA tried to reclaim overpayments from about 2 million individuals. Most Social Security payments are issued on Wednesdays throughout the month.

Around 8 million people who are disabled or have limited resources receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit payments monthly. Approximately half of SSI recipients also get Social Security. The Social Security payment schedule for July 2025 is as follows:

Tuesday, July 1: SSI recipients
Thursday, July 3: Those who started receiving Social Security before May 1997
Wednesday, July 9: Birthdates from the 1st to the 10th
Wednesday, July 16: Birthdates from the 11th to the 20th
Wednesday, July 23: Birthdates from the 21st to the 31st

SSI provides monthly benefits to people aged 65 or older, blind, or with a qualifying disability who have limited income or resources.

Children with qualifying disabilities can also receive SSI. Those eligible can start the application process online, at a local office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time on weekdays.

If you do not receive your payment on the expected date, the SSA advises waiting three additional mailing days before contacting them, as 99% of beneficiaries are paid electronically. Everyone can start collecting reduced Social Security benefits at age 62. But waiting until full retirement age results in a larger monthly payment.

The full retirement age for those born in 1958 is 66 years and 8 months. For those born in 1959, it is 66 years and 10 months. It will increase to 67 for those born in 1960 and later.
