Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Rep. Debbie Dingell introduced Medicare for All legislation. The bill would provide comprehensive coverage to every American without premiums, co-payments, or deductibles. Jayapal said Democrats must show people they are willing to unrig the system.
Our friend, @SenSanders is right! Our health care system is cruel, costly, and broken.
It’s time to guarantee care to everyone, because health care is a human right!https://t.co/tgPYNkRxp2

She criticized her party for being overly cautious and believing the public wanted Democrats to cooperate with Trump. Jayapal was frustrated with the Senate confirming Trump’s Cabinet members. She said many of them were incompetent and unsuitable.
Republicans and big insurance companies like to call Medicare for All “radical.”
What’s so radical about having a universal health care system like every other developed country in the world?
The American people deserve a health care system that actually WORKS. pic.twitter.com/gFt8rVoEqO

Jayapal outlined her vision of leadership as building the resistance movement at all levels. She said this is essential for preserving democracy and presenting a clear alternative to the current administration’s policies.
We have never suffered from scarcity in America. We suffer from greed.
And because of that greed, more and more people are not taking their medication, losing their health care, and dying.
It’s enough. We need Medicare for All. pic.twitter.com/iCRAHMw8K8

Medicare for all coverage details
Sanders said the US spends almost twice as much per capita on healthcare as any other country. Despite this, over 85 million Americans are either uninsured or underinsured. Sanders said 68,000 people in the US die each year because they can’t afford to go to a doctor.
More than half a million Americans go bankrupt due to medically related debt. Sanders said the US has the highest infant mortality rate of any other wealthy country. He also said tens of millions live in communities without insurance and cannot find a doctor, dentist, or psychologist.
Sanders said Medicare for All would provide comprehensive healthcare coverage without out-of-pocket expenses and offer full freedom of choice regarding healthcare providers. It would save Americans $650 billion a year.
He said it would eliminate bureaucracy, profiteering, administrative costs, and misplaced priorities inherent in the current for-profit system. Sanders said Republicans are working to make a bad healthcare situation even worse. He said they want to pass legislation that would decimate Medicaid and throw millions of Americans off their healthcare to give massive tax breaks to billionaires.
