When everybody sells the same thing

Same thingIf you are a small business it can be hard to deal with the fact that you are not the only game in town. You could be one of several self-employed people all selling almost the same exact thing.

The key to making your clients - and potential clients - think that you are the preferred option is to lure them with offers. Flirt with them in your newsletter. Let them know that they, as subscribers to your newsletter, are privy to the jokes, candid tales and advice that is part of your “real” personality.

Although facts, statistics and solid research are also necessary components of an effective newsletter, it never hurts to use a bit of charm, wit and flair as well. Through the use of clever headlines, jokes and catch phrases you should be able to connect with your reader so that, for example, when they think of “press releases” they will never think of anyone else’s press release writing service but yours.

All of the copywriting in the world can’t disguise an inferior product or bad idea for a service, so make sure that you have a benefit for your customers that is not necessarily offered by other vendors and then make sure you present that benefit as much as you possibly can in your marketing.

However sometimes you can’t help but find yourself trying to sell in a market where everybody is offering the same thing. If you find yourself in this position, then what you need is a vibrant, engaging newsletter that makes your customers feel as if they have crashed a party and now found themselves to be part of an exciting new inner circle of “people in the know.”

If you do not know how to write a brilliant newsletter, try searching for writers on Elance, a freelance finder service that has great vendors bidding on your project.
